Staying off facebook unless I have something to actually post, or am on the toilet.

Spend way to much time on it otherwise!

Unless that just makes you sit on the toilet longer… 🤣

But… I’m with you. Facebook; social media across the board, has been gamified by the corporations to keep you on the site at the cost of encouraging vapid doom-scrolling: consume content at any cost. One-click responses – emoticon or pre-filled statements – rule.

so incredibly little quality connecting going on.

Combine that with the HORRIBLE service – arbitrary censorship, arbitrary profile shutdowns, horrible fact checking by virtually everyone, the quick propagation of  outright false information…. makes FB a no go for any actual connection or virtually anything else with the exception of broadcasting info

Was seriously considering setting a 21 day challenge around the same thing you have.

So, Mr. Kolea… how will you *measure* progress in this goal? Do you have a screen time tracker you have access to? Any idea how much time you spend on FB prior to today? And then what will be the specific, measurable goal? BC “spend less time on FB” CAN be met by simply spending 1 second less on it today… than you did yesterday. 😉 SURELY you mean a more substantive goal than that, ne? 😉

Fkn hell mate, did I stutter when I typed? I said stay off facebook unless I have something to post (or on toilet), not “spend less time on it.”

Its pretty binary: did I go on FB without something to post or not?

This might lead to lots of shitposting, but unlikely 😀

Facebook, TikTok, and Youtube Shorts are waste of time!! lol

I deleted Facebook and TikTok from my phone, and it helps 🙂

Still haven’t been on facebook unless posting or pooping.

Got some new books which helps.

What’s the goal (aside of the stated)? Like… how will this make a difference in your life. And I mean deeper than, “I won’t waste time” or “I’ll have more time.”

Like what’s the USE of the time? What difference will it make in your life!? What will you build or create with extra time? AND… how do you turn this from a task (“Don’t visit Facebook unless I have something to post.”) into a mission (“Use my disposable income to “)

Still haven’t been on facebook except pooping or posting!

Those are good questions though. I find I don’t really have much else going on in my life besides working and working out right now. So that extra time that I’m not on social media, really isn’t being used for anything productive. And I think thats the problem. Sometimes I just pace back and forth since I don’t have anything else to do.

I guess there’s no higher level goals that I have right now.

I should take out my recycling, but thats not very enticing…

There’s considerable theory that the creativity and deep problem solving occurs when we’re screwing off; relaxing. That being said… boredom IS one of the huge reasons many (erm… myself) included doom scroll. Same as going to the ‘fridge and looking for the umpteeth time even though you KNOW there’s nothing good in there: boredom.

I’m getting ready to publish an article meant to provide inspiration on goals that people can set. I think that stasis – having life “as is” IS a huge part of 99% of people’s lives.

But, preemptively, even before the article… is there NO area of your life that you’d like to improve!?

                      And be careful here…

A quick 2 stories: you know I grew up in Las Vegas. My dad would sometimes gamble for entertainment. Vegas can be a superstitious town – lots of concepts of “luck” and how cards and dice and bets “go.” One of those beliefs is that numbers – the numbers you’re betting on – “run,” they develop patterns.

And, to be sure, if you look at the STATS you’ll actually see this.

The problem!?  The problem is statistics show trends AFTER they happen. It’s like cherry picking: just because AFTER the dice were rolled 1000 times you can see groupings of repeated numbers or patterns does NOT mean that ANYONE could have predicted when and where those numbers would have come up or will again.

But… when a table is hot (hitting the numbers people are betting on) the idea is… GET IN ON THE TREND.

My father found himself, one night, on a hot table. He watched as number after number the players were betting on was rolled again, paying off all of the betters who had bed on those numbers. We didn’t have a lot of money so my father was a cautious better and he watched while others were raking in BUCK$.

Looking to a man to his right that was one of the ones raking in handful of casino chips my father remarked, “I wish I was winning as big!”

The man looked him in the eye and remarked, “it’s not that you don’t have the money… you don’t have the balls.”

                      ——

It was just a while ago I was listening to a new podcaster. Promoted himself as “how to get rich” or some such focus. He was full of swear words and bravado, but I never really got much out of the topics he discussed.

Until about the 4th or 5th podcast of his I listened to:  “You’re not bored…” he yelled, “you’re SCARED.”

Pick the goal that will change your life. The one that DOES put the fear of God into you: launch your own business so you can quit your job? Find your wife? Start an MBA?

Explore your fears, Kolea. Then name a goal.

Still staying off facebook except for pooping or posting, and one other exception: actually looking for information, like tonights looking on the west seattle group for a house cleaner!

How’d it go finding a house cleaner?  I could recommend someone if you need.

Curious: I never heard any feedback or thoughts about my last post to your thread. Did it prompt anything!?

And… it’s DAY 21!!! Where does your Challenge stand? What remains yet to do? And what will you build on from here?

Found a couple house cleaners, but the thing with my eye is probably going to eat up a lot of my budget (ER and doc visits), so no paying for a house cleaner for a while.

ON the plus side, I didn’t mindlessly scroll FB for those 21 days.

On the minus side, Insta saw a lot more usage.

                              1) How did you first hear about the LSE 21 Day Challenge?

                              My buddy Mark.

                              2) Why did you accept the LSE 21 Day Challenge?

To challenge myself to stay off Facebook a bit

                              3) What was your goal?

To stay off Facebook a bit

                              4) Which success-related or motivational product(s) did you rely on during the Challenge and which do you feel were the most important to your success? Why were these important to your success?

No products. unless Instagram is a product

                              5) When did you realize that you were serious about doing this 21 Day Challenge?

When I’d waste all afternoon on weekends on facebook

                              6) What were the first results that you noticed in your 21 Day Challenge?
I used insta a lot more.

                              7) How did you measure “success”? In terms of that definition, what success did you reach?

If I didn’t go on Facebook except posting or pooping.

                              8) Success is rarely achieved alone. Whose support did you rely on during this Challenge and what difference did that support make?

                              No one.

                              9) Many people trying for a success larger than they already have will experience new, sudden and perhaps serious obstacles when they begin to work towards their dream. Quitters say, “Oh, well, something came up. That’s why I had to give up on my goal.” Winners say, “Yes there were challenges, and here’s how I handled them to reach my goal anyway.” How did you succeed in SPITE of the obstacles?

Well? I just went on Insta more than FB. Probalby not the greatest thing but oh well.

                              10) Motivation waxes and wanes. What might start off as a fire in your soul quickly becomes drudgery the 5th… or 10th… or 15th… day. Did you ever feel like quitting? If “yes,” how or what did you do to renew your commitment to succeed? How did you persist even when your motivation was flagging?
No, it was pretty straightforward since I didn’t try to completely quit it.

                              11) What was the most powerful thing you gained from your Challenge? What did you learn about yourself from this Challenge?

                              Nothing.

                              12) How has your life changed by deciding to accept the 21 Day Challenge?
I now use Insta a lot more.

                              13) Why should someone participate in a future 21 Day Challenge?

Because Mark is good at motivating people. By Staying off facebook, I had to hear less of his snarky comments! 🙂

                              14) If you could inspire one person to begin their success in a 21 Day Challenge, who would that be? Why would you choose that person? How would you help them succeed?

Mark Farmer- to be less aggressively snarky on Facebook. Because he definitely needs it. I would block my posts from his view so that he won’t see or be able to reply to them with snark 😀

4 months on. How’s the Facebook time; what, in retrospect, did the Challenge do for you and, most importantly: what goal(s) you working on now!?
